Sylvia Pankhurst’s 1913 escape to Scandinavia is one of the least‑known episodes in her extraordinary life. On the run from the police and weakened by repeated hunger strikes, she left England to recover — a journey that unexpectedly brought her to Gothenburg.

This illustrated talk presents new research into Sylvia’s Scandinavian weeks: the safe houses, the activists she met, the landscapes that restored her, and the political meetings she addressed along the way. It draws on material uncovered for a recently published article by John Chaplin in CoScan Magazine, revealing a vivid and previously overlooked chapter in the women’s suffrage story.
