Activities of the Anglo-Swedish Society
We maintain British traditions such as: a Christmas Carols night in December with mince pies; a (not quite a) cèilidh or social gathering where members can exercise their acting skills; and an ‘English style’ treasure hunt in July.
We keep members informed of English language cultural and social events in Gothenburg – including National Theatre Live at Bio Roy
We maintain the tradition of participating together with the Embassy, the British Club, and the British Legion of laying a wreath at Remembrance day in November and ANZAC day in April
We maintain contact with the other Anglo-Swedish societies in Stockholm and London and with other Anglo-Scandinavian societies.
We organise talks and information meetings, in person and on-line internationally, eg. Brexit matters, local artists and authors.
We provide information as needed to the local Press – mostly these days about Royal events
We contribute to and provide advice to the British Council which has focused on the Gothenburg Book Fair.
We research the history of the Anglo-Swedish relationship and publish articles in appropriate publications.
We distribute a (rather irregular) newsletter to members six to eight times a year.
